It’s been claimed that £50,000 donated by Alton Towers to the county highways authority has been wrongly used.

Alton parish councillors were under the impression that the cash would contribute to road improvements in the village.

But instead it has been spent on a traffic count at the theme park’s main entrance.

Councillors had hoped the money would help fund a much-needed pedestrian crossing, traffic lights, road signs and junction upgrades.
