A New Community Transport Scheme Up And Running Across Moorlands

A newly established voluntary and community transport scheme is now up and running in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

Moorlands Voluntary and Community Transport (MVCT) was set up following funding cuts from the County Council which meant that Support Staffordshire were unable to continue to run the schemes. Over 60 volunteers give their time helping those who are struggling to access appointments, meet friends and attend activities; most of the people who use the schemes are some of the most vulnerable members of our local community, often older, frail and isolated.

MVCT is looking for more volunteer drivers from across the Staffordshire Moorlands to enable more people to be able to benefit from the schemes; Sally Bentley, Chief Officer of MVCT, says ‘we would encourage people who can spare a few hours a week and enjoy driving, to consider joining our band of wonderful volunteer drivers’. Sally continued ‘we are also looking for local businesses, of all sizes, to sponsor our minibuses, for which they would receive their business logo on one of our minibuses, to be seen across the Moorlands and further afield too.’
