We have new leaders in the North West Counties Football League First Division South as Abbey Hulton United ran out 4-0 winners over Cheadle Heath Nomads at the Drayton Beaumont stadium.
Two goals each for Dylan Bath and Angela Errico in the last 20 minutes of the game, along with Rylands losing 2-0 at St.Martins put the Birches Head Road based side top of the pile.
It was a tight and scrappy game in the first half with neither team wanting to fall behind early on in the game. Kayle Power, has scored seven goals already for Cheadle Heath Nomads this season, and he had the first chance of the afternoon when he shot wide of the goal on 16 minutes.
At the other Nathan Grice headed just wide of the post from a Johnathan Briks corner as the half wore on with the score still goalless.
Just before the interval, Errico should have had a free kick as he was dragged down to the ground just outside the area but the referee wasn’t moved and allowed play to continue and it led to Eddie Rezayan firing over the bar for the visitors.
Abbey Hulton manager Dave Riley must have had words with his team at the interval as they came out for the second half looking determined to find the breakthrough.
They went close through Kieran Williams, who shot over the bar before Cheadle keeper Arran Tryer kick the ball straight against Bath in the area, but thankfully for the visiting goalkeeper the ball went out of play.
The deadlock was broken on 66 minutes when Kieran Lazenby, who had an excellent game on the wing for the hosts, crossed the ball into the area and Bath headed home into the bottom corner to open the scoring.
At the other end, the visitors were hoping for a penalty on 72 minutes when Kieran Herbert went down in the area but the referee didn’t give anything as the Stockport based side looked for an equaliser.
With 10 minutes to go, it was 2-0 when sub Tyler Savage saw his cross cleared only as far as Errico who smashed the ball home.
Any hopes of a Cheadle fightback were killed off on 88 minutes when the ball found Bath who scored from just inside the area as Abbey Hulton went 3-0 up. They put some gloss on the score line in the second minute into added time when Errico broke the offside trap and got right to the goal line, from an acute angle he guided the ball across the face of the goal and into the far corner to make it 4-0.
As results went Abbey Hulton’s way they jumped up to the top of the table replacing Rylands, who visit the Drayton Beaumont Stadium next Saturday in the 2nd round of the First Division cup.
