<p>In the past few months they&#8217;ve been called out to free a cow stuck in a ditch, a seagull trapped in a tree and now a sheep stranded in a river.</p>
<p>Police requested firefighters&#8217; help in rescuing a sheep from the river Dove near Milldale, yesterday afternoon. But their assistance wasn&#8217;t required on arrival.</p>

<p>The loyalty scheme was set up by the district council with Biddulph Business Chamber, Cheadle Business and Leek Chamber of Trade to independent high street stores a helping hand.</p>
<p>The scheme is going out with a bang this month, with three cash prizes of £50 for lucky shoppers &#8211; plus a Super Draw £100 cash jackpot.</p>
<p>The council is now looking at new ways to support local traders.</p>

<p>They&#8217;re needed for a special exhibition at Leek&#8217;s Nicholson Museum and Art Gallery to celebrate the Queen&#8217;s Diamond Jubilee.</p>
<p>The Nicholson Collection already holds some items relating to the present Queen and to Queen Victoria&#8217;s Diamond Jubilee in 1897.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A convicted Moorlands fraudster has been ordered to pay back almost a quarter of a million pounds within four months &#8211; or return to prison for a further three years.</p>
<p>Terence Broad, from Brown Edge, was part of a 13-strong organised gang jailed for conspiring to steal £17 million of taxpayers money in a complicated &#8216;missing trader&#8217; VAT fraud following a five-year investigation by Her Majesty&#8217;s Revenue &amp; Customs.</p>
<p>The multi-million pound fraud centred on the mobile phone industry.</p>
<p>Broad was sentenced in December 2010 to 16 months imprisonment and disqualified from being a company director for four years.</p>
