Leek And Rudyard Railway Puts Wheelchair Friendly Coach Into Service

The Leek and Rudyard railway which operates along the former North Staffordshire railway track bed alongside moorlands beauty spot, Rudyard Lake have entered a new coach dedicated to carrying people in wheelchairs alongside to view the lake

The footpath alongside the lake is uneven and can be difficult for the less mobile in our community to view the lakes natural beauty however now the railway has added this carriage to its line up the lake is accessible to those who cannot leave their wheelchairs.

The railway runs a mile and a half alongside the lake from the original Rudyard station site to Hunthouse Wood with a stop off at the Dam head.

The new wheelchair friendly coach originally came from the isle of Mull railway in Scotland and Has been fully upgraded to suit modern day wheelchairs and specifications by a team of dedicated volunteers who keep the railway running on a day to day basis by operating the steam trains along with carrying out routine matainance to keep the railway in tip top shape for the public to enjoy
