It was lucky number 13 for Stafford Rangers as they swept past Rushall Olympic 3-0 to lift the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup for the 13th time at Stoke City’s bet365 stadium.
Goals either side of half-time from Jake Charles and one from Daniel Burns gave the Boro the win.
Listen to the highlights below;
The Northern Premier League side started like an express train as they defended the trophy they won last year, and it took the Boro just 16 minutes of play to break the deadlock when a corner was floated into the area for Burns to head home.
It was 2-0 after 34 minutes when former Stoke City youngster Tom Thornley made a great run through the centre of the pitch before seeing his shot parried by Ben Newey. However, Charles was able to pounce on the loose ball to slot it home.
Just minutes later and, it could have got even worse for Rushall, when a Matt Hill free-kick was whipped in and AJ Adelekan let it bounce past him and almost beat Newey. Thankfully for the keeper, it bounced wide of the goal.
Rushall’s best chance of the night came on 41 minutes when Tyler Lyttle broke forward before squaring it across the penalty area, sadly for him none of his teammates was able to connect with it.
Stafford won the game just before the hour mark, when a short corner was played to Hill, he whipped it in and, Charles rose highest to head home via a deflection off Pics captain Orrin Pendley.
After the game Moorlands Radio caught up with the victorious management duo of Alex Meechan and Andy Fearn of Stafford Rangers.
We also spoke with Rushall Olympic manager Liam McDonald following tonight’s defeat.
