Congleton Town’s talisman Max McCarthy has left the club to join National League North side Radcliffe FC.
McCarthy, who finished last season as the Bears leading marksman for the second season running, departs the Cleric Stadium having been a key figure in keeping Congleton Town in the Northern Premier League West thanks to a final day victory over Trafford in which he scored two goals, Richard Duffy’s men also needed Witton Albion to take points off Sporting Khalsa to ensure survival.
In his second spell with the club, he has helped them win promotion out of the Midlands Football League as Champions, win the Midlands League Cup as they thumped Highgate United 5-1 at the Bescot Stadium, the home of Walsall FC. He also scored 23 goals as Congleton finished 3rd on their return to the Northern Premier League which helped the club reach the playoff final at Hednesford Town.
He even ran his own goal of the season competition last campaign as he scored some unbelievable goals at Bury, Bootle, Lower Breck and at home to Wythenshawe Town.
As Max departs for Radcliffe, Moorlands Radio sport caught up with the goal machine for one final interview.
