Review by Dave Stringer: The Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys is back on tour to celebrate its twentieth anniversary and is spending this week at the Regent Theatre Hanley. The great news is that this beautiful production is showing no signs of showing its age and remains one of those must see pieces of musical theatre. It may well fall into the genre known as jukebox due to its adherence to the music of Frankie Valli and The Four […]
Review by Dave Stringer. Imagine a post-apocalyptic world where Earth has been under attacks so severe that most of life has to continue in a subterranean world and – with little living above ground – the only trees to be seen are, as Joni Mitchell predicted, only to be seen in a true museum. To escape the holocaust, many of the world’s inhabitants have been scattered around the universe to re-establish colonies elsewhere. This is the existence that we are […]

Ciaran's play is a powerful and poignant piece of writing which explores the interplay between the passion for football and the camaraderie of male friendships alongside emotional and hard hitting personal issues. As the producer of the enormously popular View from the Wings - the Moorlands Radio Arts & Entertainment Podcast, I don't normally get out to see shows of any kind. In fact Dave Stringer and Carol Lovatt keep me locked away in a cold dark studio editing their interviews and twiddling the knobs whilst they do the talking. Today, Saturday 17th October I broke out of captivity to attend the afternoon performance of Stoke Youth Musical Theatre Company's latest offering […]
On many occasions I have been persuaded to watch a new production that purports to be an offshoot of the classic comedies. So it was with a little apprehension that I made my way to the New Vic. Could the claims that Oh Zeus has a rightful claim to be compared to the likes of Fawlty Towers, Bottom and the Carry On franchise be true? Pleasing to say that any worries had disappeared within minutes of the start of this […]
Carol chats to Leigh Colclough, Chairperson of the Mow Cop Players Theatre Company about their new upcoming production on stage later this month at the MAC in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Leigh explains how the theatre company was set up in 1974 and how it is still going strong fifty two years later. This autumn, over the Halloween weekend, the group are performing The Wizard of Oz as an early fun packed panto production which is sure to delight audiences of all […]
There is always a slightly bigger bounce in my step when I go to a production of Annie – the feel good musical that proved to me that an excellent piece of musical theatre can be so good for the soul. Make no bones about it, this production once again revived my faith in human nature and sent me home with a swelling heart and the unforgettable score winging its way around my brain. The story of red-haired Annie which […]
An encounter with Out Of The Blue - ELO's sixth studio album - changed John Rowen's musical life. After cutting his performing teeth in the pubs and clubs around Hull, he realised that his musical mission would be to create the finest celebration of Jeff Lynne's work with the help of a group of talented musicians. Twenty years later John claims that he is still learning and improving but the ELO Experience is acknowledged as one of the greatest homage […]
