Carol Lovatt in Conversation with Ciaran Edwards of Because of Saturday

Carol chats to Ciaran Edwards who recently won the ‘Malcolm Rushton Prize for Playwriting Competition’ held at Stoke Rep Theatre here in the Potteries for his play Because of Saturday.

Ciaran’s play is a powerful and poignant piece of writing which explores the interplay between the passion for football and the camaraderie of male friendships alongside emotional and hard hitting personal issues.

Carol finds out about the inspiration which led to Ciaran’s first attempt at playwriting and how Because of Saturday came into existence as a prize winning new play so relevant to modern day themes of relationship difficulties, male mental health, current ideas around masculinity and spiritual elements.

Carol also talks to Ciaran about his work as an actor and his personal long-standing passion for Stoke City Football Club.  The interview also gives advice and encouragement to other budding playwrights as Ciaran talks about his own journey of putting pen to paper and transferring his finished play to the stage.

An insightful interview about putting theatrical ideas in motion culminating in a powerful production for all to see.
