The majority of parents in Staffordshire will find out today (April 16) that they have been allocated their first-choice primary school. Nearly 95 per cent of parents will find out that they have been allocated a place at their top preferred primary school, with more than 99 per cent being offered one of their top three. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue are reminding residents to avoid burning household and garden waste after we attended several controlled burns recently. Crews were called at 5.50pm on Sunday (12 April), to a home in the Garmelow area of Stafford following reports of a controlled burn which had spread to a fence. A plan for maintenance and repairs at Staffordshire schools over the next year has been approved. The Capital Programme for Schools 2026/27 will see upgraded facilities for schools, including refurbished playgrounds, updated toilet blocks and repaired roofs. The programme will also include upgrades to make schools more sustainable, replacing inefficient heating systems with more environmentally friendly options and improving insulation. With Councils across England now required to collect food waste each week, the District Council has announced that preparations are underway to commence this service in the Moorlands at the end of June when residents will need to present any food waste separately from garden waste.
