The majority of parents in Staffordshire will find out today (April 16) that they have been allocated their first-choice primary school.

Nearly 95 per cent of parents will find out that they have been allocated a place at their top preferred primary school, with more than 99 per cent being offered one of their top three.

The national average last year was 92.6% for 1st preferences.

Figures revealed today show that out of a total 8,517 places allocated, 8,089 received their first-choice primary school while 8,460 were allocated one of their top three.

Schools that parents could apply for include the new primary school opening in Lichfield, and the Rugeley John Taylor All Through School which is accepting Reception aged children for the first time.

Janet Higgins, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said:

“Finding out your child’s primary school place is a big moment for any family, and we want parents to have that information promptly.

“I’m pleased that we’ve been able to offer almost all families one of their preferred schools again this year, with the great majority receiving their first choice. That’s thanks to the hard work of our admissions team, and to parents who submitted their preferences by the deadline.”

Parents who applied online will be receiving emails about the results from today onwards.
